Join Us...
So you were surfing on the internet and found our web page; you were invited by a friend to attend one of our Tuesday night meetings; you have been singing barbershop in another part of the country and have moved to the Las Vegas area; you have a friend who is currently a member and keeps trying to get you to check us out; you just love to sing. Whatever your reason is, you now have an interest in joining the City of Lights Chorus.
FIRST: The first thing that you need to do is show up at a Tuesday night meeting. The location, directions, map and times are available in the 'Rehearsals' section of our website. When you arrive you will be greeted by our members. They will want to know a little about you but most importantly, they will want to know if you would like to sing. You will provided a Guest Book containing our current numbers and offered the chance to join us on the risers. By the end of the evening, we hope that we will have provided you with a great night of entertainment and enough information about our organization that you will want to join us. If you are interested, we will provide you with a small packet that will give you some basic information about the City of Lights Chorus.
SECOND: After your first visit, you decide that you enjoyed yourself so much that you would like to get to know us even better so you come back for that second visit. If you were not assigned a mentor at your first visit, you will get one this time. He will assist you in making sure that you have done all you need to do to become a member as well as answer any questions that you may have. At your second meeting you will also be given a packet containing more extensive information about our Chorus and the Barbershop Harmony Society. You will also receive some of our basic music and a learning CD. This will give you the opportunity to see how we learn our new music. Also, you will be given a voice test by one of our Music Team. This will show us what your singing abilities are and allow us to advise you on which voice part you are best suited for.
THIRD: You have come back for that all important third meeting. This shows the membership that you really are interested. You will be introduced to the Secretary who will give you a membership application, an explanation of the fee system and the different options available to you for payment. You will also be afforded the opportunity to sit down with our Director where he will give you a little of his 'vision' for the Chorus and answer any questions that you might have that pertain to what he does.
LASTLY: Once your application and fees have been filed with the Secretary, your name will be presented to the Board of Directors along with a recommendation from your mentor. Once the Board approves your application, you are a member and your paperwork will be processed. WELCOME!!!!
IF.......you are a current member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and are just looking to transfer your Chorus membership or set up a dual membership, you will still need to attend the three meetings so we can get to know you and you us. Also, you will need to take the voice test so our Music Team will have a better idea of your abilities and how we can better use them to our advantgage. The Secretary will advise you about the procedures that are already in place for membership transfer or dual membership. Once the paperwork is in place, the Board will vote on your application and you will be in.
